Sansan: A Handwritten Font for Romantic Campaigns

It was 3 p.m. on a Thursday, and I was staring at my screen, trying to finalize the visuals for a seasonal sale campaign. The client wanted something warm, inviting, and a bit whimsical to match their brand’s personality. That’s when I reached for Sansan—a delicate handwritten font that had been sitting in my design toolkit for a while.

Sansan is a gentle script font with soft curves and an almost personal feel. It doesn’t scream for attention but instead whispers it, making it perfect for campaigns that need a touch of romance or nostalgia. Its visual style feels like a hand-drawn note from a friend—warm, approachable, and slightly elegant.

Elevating Headlines with a Personal Touch

I started by using Sansan as the main headline for the promotional banner. The font’s character gave the campaign a sense of intimacy, which aligned perfectly with the client’s goal of creating a connection with their audience. It worked especially well on larger screens, where the flowing lines of the letters could be appreciated without losing clarity.

On mobile previews, I made sure to keep the text size generous enough so that the intricate details of the font didn’t get lost. Sansan still felt readable even at smaller sizes, which was a relief since the campaign would be heavily promoted across Instagram and Pinterest feeds.

Using Sansan in Social Media Graphics

For the Instagram posts, I paired Sansan with a clean sans serif font for body copy. This contrast helped maintain readability while keeping the visual hierarchy clear. I used Sansan for callouts, quotes, and captions that needed a softer tone. It added a layer of personality to each post, making the content feel more human and less corporate.

In one post, I designed a quote graphic with a floral background. Sansan fit seamlessly into the design, adding a romantic mood that matched the imagery. It wasn’t overdone, but it was just enough to draw the eye and create a memorable first impression.

YouTube Thumbnails and Webinar Banners

The webinar banner was another place where Sansan shone. The title “Spring Into Learning” was written in Sansan, and it immediately conveyed the season’s energy and the friendly nature of the event. When designing thumbnails for YouTube, I found that Sansan’s legibility on small screens was impressive. Even in fast-scrolling feeds, the font stood out without being too flashy.

I also experimented with using Sansan for the webinar’s subtitle, pairing it with a modern sans serif for contrast. The result was balanced and professional, yet still carried that handwritten charm that the brand wanted to showcase.

Practical Pairings and Typography Tips

Sansan works best when paired with a clean sans serif or a subtle serif font. These combinations help maintain readability while allowing the handwritten style to take center stage. For digital ads, I recommend avoiding overly decorative fonts that might clash with Sansan’s gentle curves.

Before finalizing any project, I always check if the font includes alternates, ligatures, and different weights. In this case, Sansan offered enough variation to be versatile across multiple uses. It also supported multilingual characters, which was important for the campaign’s international reach.

When it comes to commercial use, I make sure the licensing covers all intended applications—whether it’s for social media templates, website banners, or merchandise. Sansan’s license allows for commercial use, which made it a safe and reliable choice for the campaign.

Where Sansan Shines and Where It Falls Short

Sansan is ideal for short headlines, decorative titles, and display text. It adds a romantic or nostalgic feel to campaigns that need a personal touch. However, it’s not suited for long paragraphs, dense information, or tiny text. For formal corporate communication, a more structured typeface would likely be more appropriate.

When designing for dark backgrounds, I found that Sansan still looked good as long as there was enough contrast between the text and the background. On light backgrounds, it maintained its softness without becoming washed out.

Overall, Sansan proved to be a valuable asset in the campaign. It brought warmth, personality, and a unique visual identity to the brand’s message. Whether it was used for a product teaser, a course launch, or a seasonal sale, Sansan consistently delivered a sense of joy and connection that resonated with the audience.
